Like you, we want our benefits to have the breadth and depth that make our offerings a reason colleagues join MMA Ohio – and a reason you stay. We took our first steps last year to listen to your feedback and set us on a path to make incremental improvements to our benefits. This year, we’re taking our next steps, continuing to shape our benefits around two key themes: empowerment and flexibility. We’ve added flexibility to our PTO policy, increased our parental leave three-fold, doubled our family illness leave, added up to $10,000 per year in tuition reimbursement and embraced a new wellness program that allows you to pave a path to healthier living that’s meaningful to you – and incentivizes you to reach it. You’ll also see these two key themes as we continue to lean in to our High-Deductible Health Plan with HSA, putting you in greater control of your healthcare spending, and as we invest more than ever to empower you with the knowledge to make smart healthcare choices for you and your family. We believe these themes help set us up to potentially improve our benefits even more in the future so that, as we continue to ask for your feedback, we can continue to implement it.

Dental Insurance Life Insurance Vision Insurance
HSAs benefit from a triple tax advantage: you don’t pay any taxes when money goes in, comes out (for qualified medical expenses) or on interest earned on investments within the account. This makes an HSA a critical component of any retirement strategy.
Save for Retirement
You may contribute additional tax-free funds to your HSA up to the following IRS limits for 2022: • $3,650 Individual • $7,300 Family • $1,000 Catch-Up Provision for those 55+ years of age The IRS does not allow Medicare enrollees to contribute to an HSA – please see HR for details.

Used in tandem, HDHPs and HSAs allow you to direct your medical care for the best possible coverage and value. HSAs are bank accounts that allow you to set aside tax-free money to pay your deductible and other out-of-pocket qualified medical, dental and vision expenses. The funds in your HSA roll over from year-to-year and are yours to keep – even if you change medical plans or retire.

Two ways to use your HSA
Used as a spending account, your HSA can help offset the high deductible of our HDHP plan. A single employee on our plan who reaches platinum status in our wellness program (program details in the Wellness section of this summary) would receive $1,750 from us. They could contribute an additional $2,100 tax-free, covering most of the deductible.

Offsetting Your Deductible
HSAs benefit from a triple tax advantage: you don’t pay any taxes when money goes in, comes out (for qualified medical expenses) or on interest earned on investments within the account. This makes an HSA a powerful component of any retirement strategy. The below graph shoes earnings over 30 years if you were to contribute $3,650 to your HSA and withdraw $1,000 each year for medical expenses, assuming a 24% federal income tax bracket, a %5 state tax bracket and a 6% return on investment.

HDHP and HSA Advantages:
Save on your annual premiums Enrollees in our HDHP will save up to $7,217 in premiums each year, depending on their coverage level compared to our Traditional PPO.
The triple tax advantage You can choose to use those premium savings to fund your HSA, which benefits from a triple tax advantage: you pay no taxes on deposits, on interest gained or when withdrawn for qualified medical expenses.
Roll over year-to-year The funds in your HSA stay with you, even if you change plans or retire. This allows you to use your HSA to continue rolling over your savings from a low-cost healthcare year to a high-cost year, or all the way until you retire.

Long-Term Disability

Parental Leave
MMA Ohio offers up to four weeks of paid leave to allow colleagues to care for yourself or an immediate family member due to a catastrophic illness. Colleagues must qualify for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), be employed for one year and may take this leave either as a continuous time period or intermittently.
